When going for a paintball game, you need to be fully equipped with the right tools to ensure you and your team have a fighting chance at victory. As a beginner you might think that with just a paintball gun / marker you are good to go, well in that case, you have never been farther from the truth. Paintball as simple as it may look is quite complex and a lot of things go into setting up a successful paintball game.
Today, we would be taking a look at the most essential paintball gear to take with you during your next paintball game.
Paintball gun or marker: Well, this is the most obvious, there can be no paintball game without a paintball marker or gun. The paintball gun holds the paintballs (which is another essential ingredient that must be taken to a paintball game). They come in all shapes and sizes and they can come in simple hand guns or sophisticated military style guns. Some simple precautionary measures to take with a paintball marker include:
- Always keep the marker on safe mode until you are in an actual paintball game and you are ready to shoot.
- Never look down the barrel of a paintball gun
- You should only pull the trigger when you are ready to shoot. In other words, the trigger is not a toy you should play with.
- Never point the marker at anything you do not wish to shoot.
- Always remove paintball and propellant source before disassembly
- After use, ensure you store the paintball marker in a secure place
- When in a paintball game, ensure you wear eye, face and ear protection designed specifically for paintball.
Paintball Masks: Direct contact of paintball to the face in high velocity might be damaging to the eyes or the face in general. In this regard, you are advised to wear a mask to protect your face and eyes in particular as a shot to the eyes may leave you blind. You should note however that not just any mask would do, but a mask specifically designed for paintball. Even upon being specifically designed for paintball, the mask should meet minimum safety requirements
Safety Gear: Safety gear refers to things worn for precautionary measures in order to avoid injuries. Examples of safety gear for paintball includes paintball gloves, neck protectors, chest and back protector. When you have these gears, you can become more immersed in the game and perform more stunts as you are rest assured that you would go home with minimal bruises. Diving to avoid being shot becomes easier and less painful as you have the necessary gear to protect you from bruises.
Paintball barrel cover: This is again for safety measures. The barrel cover ensures that the mouth of the paintball gun or marker is safely covered to prevent the incidence of shooting someone off field. Most paintball fields would require you have your paintball barrel cover safely tucked on the paintball gun at all times except during the game.
Paintballs: Another necessity. Without the balls, there can never be a paintball game. Paintball is what indicates you have been shot, and getting shot means you are out of the game. It comes in different colors and the color shows when you are hit with it. So there is no hiding when you are hit with a paintball because it is visible to all.
The paintball is attached to the paintball gun and fired by the expansion of compressed gas. There are different manufacturers of paintballs, and they sell them at varying prices. A higher price usually signifies a better quality.
Air tank: As said above, the paintball is fired from the paintball gun by means of compressed air. This is why it is pertinent you take along a compressed air tank. A CO2 tank is usually the recommended tank, as it avails the paintballer 800 to 100 shots. In spite of this, some recent manufactures advice on the use of Nitrogen as opposed the customary CO2.
Camouflage clothing: To have a greater chance of winning, you are advised to wear camouflage clothes that blend very well with the environment. This gives you an edge over your opponents as you are able to execute your stealth mode to perfection.
Batteries: Most markers are electronic nowadays, and this means it cannot function once the batteries are out. It can be very frustrating if you just have a paintball marker without the ability to shoot from it due to dead batteries. To avoid this incidence, you are advised to carry along a spare battery. Ensure you check from your marker’s guidelines to ensure that you are purchasing the right batteries.
Tools like screw drivers / Allen wrenches: This is for maintenance purpose in case the paintball marker starts malfunctioning you can easily check it in the heat of the game with a screwdriver and proper sized Allen wrenches. Also, it is advisable to keep extra O-rings and O-ring pick because o-rings can wear out and blow at the most in appropriate time and with an extra O-ring in hand, this becomes no problem. The O ring pick would also make it easy to remove damaged or broken O-rings that need replacing.
Food and water: Paintballing is no child’s play, and it can be very hectic. To ensure you are strong enough at every point of the game, you are advised to pack along with you some food and water. Also the scorching hit and full regalia can leave you dehydrated fast.
So there you go people, the above are a must have for every paintball game you seek to play. Wish you luck in your next outing. Cheers.
